Inconsiderate neighbors (and why we should all learn some manners)

The neighborhood I live in is usually very quiet. I think we all understand that we live in wooden apartments and as so, sound travels easily. Because of this we've learned to be considerate of each other (I walk softly on the wooden floors and I don't let the cat run rounds in the apartment because I don't want my downstairs neighbors to be inconvenienced). People do listen to music, but at a moderate level. Sometimes during weekends, people put their music on louder, usually only for a bit and hey, it's the weekend it's OK.

A couple of weeks ago a new neighbor moved in to the building next door to mine; his bedroom window faces mine directly. Since the moment he moved in he has alternated between playing loud, horrible techno and death metal (I kid you not). This goes on at all hours of the night, sometimes until 1am on a weeknight. I've given him some leeway thinking that no one could possibly be this inconsiderate and oblivious towards his own neighbors for this long. I also can't believe that no one has told him anything thus far.

I have basically had it. I will be moving out at the end of January, not because of him but because of other reasons. Still, I feel the need to walk over there, knock on his door and very pleasantly, charmingly put him in his place. He's an asshole, obviously, but I don't think he's ever dealt with an angry, upset, former flight attendant; I can be the nicest bitch you've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Teach him some manners and for God's sake, turn the volume down.
