Queen's Wreath

Every once in awhile I become obsessed with a plant. Lately my obsession has been focused on the beautiful and showy Petrea Volubilis, also known as sandpaper vine (because its leaves have a sandpaper like texture) and queen's wreath (because it's ummm, fit for a queen? I dunno).

I tried taking cuttings from the ancient petrea that lives next to my house, but wasn't succesful, so I've started collecting the seeds and I'm planning on starting a little petrea nursery/fan club. If you want seeds, let me know (this only applies if you live in Panama, sorry folks).

I also really like this vine because it is native to Central America, and I am all about native species vs. invasive species. Petreas like a lot of sun and do most of their blooming around summertime. Our petrea has been giving us little batches of blooms here and there when we have short periods of sunny days (as it is rainy season right now), but I have only seen it fully in bloom once and it was a spectacular, showy beauty fit for a queen.
